Is Amazon Trying To Be TikTok? π΅οΈββοΈ
Amazon is dropping a new TikTok-style video feed in its app.
Hey there! It's a new week and we have some new updates from the weekend involving Amazon, Twitter, and what it all means for creators.
Let's dive right in! π
Is Amazon Trying To Be TikTok? π΅οΈββοΈ
What's happening? Amazon is taking a page out of TikTok's book with a new feature called Inspire, first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Inspire, within the Amazon app, will be a feed of short, vertical videos in which creators will showcase items that can be bought on the platform.
How will creators play into all this? Amazon is currently recruiting influencers to create videos for Inspire. Our guess is that if social shopping seems to improve Amazon's business, it won't be long for creator opportunities to open up to everyone on the platform.
Inspire has been in a testing phase since summer, but will finally roll out to select U.S. shoppers this month.
The New Twitter Blue Relaunch Is Today, Apparently π
What's happening? More Twitter drama? No - no one wants that! But, today marks the day Twitter is relaunching Twitter Blue, it's blue checkmark (with a sprinkle of some other benefits) subscription service.
See Twitter's announcement tweet here... π
weβre relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday β subscribe on web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark π§΅

So, what's the deal here?
The subscription is available on web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month
Subscribers will have access to features including the blue checkmark, Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, and reader mode
Later in the week, Twitter will replace the "official" label with a gold checkmark for businesses and a grey checkmark for government and multilateral accounts
Subscribers will be able to change their handle, display name, or profile photo, but will temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again.
What does this mean for creators? The one benfit that will be important for creators - especially those that have a large audience on Twitter (or want to) - is the ability to "rocket to the top of replies, mentions, and search." This could be a great way to attract new followers and gain exposure on the app. Is it worth the $11/month? We will see.
