Attention Spans Are Shortening... What Do You Do? π
Facebook is seeing people spend, on average, 1.7 seconds with a piece of content on mobile.
Hey there. I was going to put a π₯ intro, but Alex Hormozi said it best...
People arenβt doing much better than you.
To other people, youβre doing better than you think you are.

Think about this π next time you're comparing yourself to other creators.
Now, let's get into the good stuff! π
Attention Spans Are Shortening... What Do You Do? π
Attention spans are dropping dramatically with short-form video skyrocketing in popularity on the major social media platforms. This makes it a real challenge for creators to capture their audience's attention for more than 15 - 20 seconds.
Actually... forget 15 - 20 seconds - Facebook (aka Meta, but I'm still calling it Facebook) stated that they're seeing people spend, on average, 1.7 seconds with a piece of content on mobile and 2.5 seconds on desktop.
So, what do you do about this? Grab your viewers attention quickly. That's obviously easier said than done. To help you out, I'm gonna share 4 highly effective ways to grab your viewers attention instantly.
1. Promise a solution to your viewer's problem
This style of video hook works extremely well for educational content creators.
Example: "Here are 5 simple hacks to lose 10 lbs in the next 30 days"
2. Use first-person narration immediately
This is where you immediately immerse your viewer into a story. This is done best using the voice-over feature.
Example: "I walked my dog this morning and he just collapsed mid-walk."
3. Propose a question or scenario
This is done by proposing a question or creating a scenario that draws your viewer's attention as soon as the video starts. You want to catch them off guard with a question/scenario that they may have never thought of BUT is extremely interesting.
Question Example: "Have you seen the center of a tootsie pop?"
Scenario Example: "Here's what will happen if you only consume water for 5 days straight"
4. Call out your viewer directly
This is done by doing exactly just that - calling out the audience.
Example: "Quick! You need to hear this before you keep scrolling!"
Will "Achievement" Badges Bring More Creators to IG? π
Instagram is currently developing a new feature called βAchievementsβ for Reels. They will look a little like this... π
"What are Achievements," you ask? Well, truthfully we don't know 100% yet. However, it is clear that they will serve as an incentive element to encourage users to post Reels more often.
Will these "Achievement" badges do what they seemingly are intended to do?
We'll have to wait and see. If Snap Streaks (remember those?) are any indication, in-app recognition like this works, and it wouldn't be unexpected to see it become a thing on Instagram as well, if the company decides to roll out these new Reels "Achievements" at some point.
Reels engagement has struggled in comparison to the short-form video king - TikTok. On Instagram, user engagement on Reels has actually decreased by 13.6% over the past month. So, it seems this may be a move to increase Reels engagement and to incentivize more activity from creators to the platform.
We'll see if it works. For now, if you are a Reels creator, you have something to look forward to.

Creator Advice of the Day π
Create content daily, even if you don't publish it. This could be simply writing ideas in a journal. You just need to be creating something every day.
Creativity is a muscle. Just like you need to go to the gym to build muscle on your body, you need to create to keep that creativity muscle growing.
An easy way to get in the habit of creating daily (even on days when you feel blocked creatively) is by setting aside 5-10 minutes every day of undistracted time to start on whatever creative act you need to get done. After that short period of time, you'll likely find that you've got something going and may even be motivated to keep going.
James Altucher, a popular podcaster and entrepreneur, uses a unique method to keep his creativity alive. Every morning, he writes down 10 original ideas. They might not even be good, but he writes them down anyway just to get the creativity muscle going. Often times, he does nothing with these ideas.
You improve by doing. To become a better creator, you need to create. So, create today!
