Creators Can Now Monetize Their Discord Community 💰

If you have a Discord, it's a big day for you. If not, you should still read this!

Happy Friday! If you have a Discord server, it's a great day for you. Why? Because you can finally monetize it!

Now, let's get into the good stuff! 👇

Creators Can Now Monetize Their Discord Community 💰

What's happening

Discord has been tinkering with Premium Memberships for a year now, allowing only a select few Discord server owners to add monthly paid tiers, similar to Patreon.

Now, it's launching this feature as Server Subscriptions and it's available to all Discord server owners in the United States.

According to Discord, most communities offer paying members things such as:

  • Access to exclusive Text or Voice channels within the server

  • Premium emojis

  • Exclusive or early access to content they create

The revenue split for Server Subscriptions seems to be more reasonnable than some of it's competitors - 90/10. This means if you offer a $10/month subscription tier, you receive $9 and Discord keeps $1.

To get creators up-to-speed, Discord gave an example of how Bella Poarch is using Server Subscriptions:

  • Tier 1 (priced at $2.99 a month) includes an exclusive monthly video and unlocks access to features in her server, like creating public threads.

  • Tier 2 (priced at $4.99 a month) gives subscribers exclusive voting rights on polls and early access to future merch drops, plus everything from tier one!

  • Tier 3 (priced at $9.99 a month) grants access to never-before-seen behind the scenes content and all of the amazing perks from the previous two tiers.

If you set up a Server Subscription, you’ll be able to create a Discord Promo Page. You can see Marquise Brownlee's here... 👇

What this means for creators

A potential new stream of income. If you have a Discord server, you can start to monetize the members in it. If not, it might be time to start learning how Discord works.

Revenue splits are starting to lean more towards creators. With Discord's 90/10 revenue split, we may see more and more companies like TikTok and Twitter move more in creators' favor with their new monetization programs. Hopefully YouTube will follow their lead, too.

Building communities is lucrative. Whether it's through Subscription Servers, Patreon, YouTube channel memberships, or any other similar service, building a community is incredibly important and lucrative for creators. If you haven't begun to bring your viewers or audience off of your main platform (i.e. TikTok, IG, YouTube, etc.) now may be the best time to start.
