Things Are Looking Up For The Creator Economy  πŸ™Œ

Meta recently released a new report on the Creator Economy and the opportunities within.

Hey there. It's a good day to be a creator BECAUSE things are looking up for the creator economy!

Now, let's discuss why! πŸ‘‡

Meta Released A Report On The Opportunities Within The Creator Economy πŸ’°

What happened? Meta recently released a new report on the Creator Economy and the opportunities within.

The key findings. While the full report is 32 pages long and ripe with information, here are the major takeaways... ‡️

  • The creator economy is forecasted to generate over $100 billion this year

  • Up to 60 million Americans now make up the "Creative Class" - that's about 40% of the national workforce

  • There are an estimated 300 million creators globally

Here's the problem. While the numbers above sound amazing and there is surely A TON of growth within the creator economy and interest in becoming creators, the average annual creator earnings are a bit skewed:

Less than 35% of creators are making more than $25,000 per year. The report states that β€œthe Creator Economy follows this general pattern. Its superstars - like PewdiePie, MrBeast, Ryan Kaji (of Ryan’s World), and Khaby Lame - can make eight figures a year and bring in as much as $2 million for a single post. But they are exceptions that prove a rule.”

While Meta confirms that the majority of creators are driven by intrinsic rewards, it also addresses the need for a more equitable system to guarantee that more creators are paid for their efforts. The number of creators who are rewarded for their work has grown over the last 5 years and seems to be trending upward.

So, what's the fix? Meta suggests a few ways for the industry average earnings to increase per creator... ‡️

  • Improved creator tipping and subscription models

  • Algorithmic amplification of less-established Creators

  • More direct funding for less-established Creators

  • Facilitating collaborations between more and less established Creators
