Consumer Engagement in Short-form Video is Increasing π
Data.ai released a report showing the crazy social media stats of 2022.
Hey there! Jay Alto tweeted yesterday, "The best videos arenβt always the most viewed videos." And this is so true. Sometimes its the videos you put the least amount of effort in that pop off.
Either way, just keep releasing content.
Consumer Engagement in Short-form Video is Increasing π
Here's the deal
Data.ai, formerly known as App Annie, has released its annual report on app performance trends for the year 2022. The report includes insights on how social media app users spent their time on the different platforms.
Here's the interesting findings
BeReal broke out in 2022, adding 5.3 million new users in the U.S. in August 2022.
The challenge for BeReal now is diversifying and building on that attention, as there may not be much engagement or monetization potential within sharing a picture once a day.
Mobile users spent $5.6 billion on short-form video apps in 2022, a 55% YoY increase.
TikTok generated the most in-app revenue of any social app in 2022, mainly from its in-app Coins that enable users to donate money to creators or buy items in-stream.
TikTok has been downloaded more than 3.5 billion times.
YouTube ranked as the most-downloaded video streaming app worldwide.
Live-stream shopping hasn't become a major trend outside of China yet, but TikTok's stats show potential for it in the future.
Total time spent using social apps rose 17% YoY, surpassing 2 trillion hours on Android phones in 2022.
Social apps continue to dominate attention, with mobile video increasingly taking up more user time.
Here's what this all means for creators
BeReal might be a viable option for growht. Right now, the whole "post a picture in real time" thing isn't a huge growth opportunity, but BeReal will be looking for ways to keep creators on the platform. And being early to a platform is always an advantage.
Keep pushing short-form. TikTok continues to get downloaded A LOT. Consumer spending is up on short-form content. Engagement is increasing. YouTube will be sharing ad revenue with Shorts creators soon. Short-form video is the way right now.

The best advice we've seen to prevent this is to minimize people who have Manager access to your channel and make sure they have phishing training. If you don't know what phishing is, here's a good training video. This apparently is happening through a browser session exploit.
