Alright. That's enough about us! Time to get into it.
Is There Still Value In Vlogging? π₯
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Let's discuss.
Popular productivity YouTuber Ali Abdaal asked his followers if he should scrap his vlogs and if not, why? The answer was overwhelmingly "DO NOT SCRAP THEM."
So, what value can vlogging provide to you as a creator?
Humanize yourself. Ali is typically a more serious creator and his vlogs humanize the man behind the camera, allowing his audience to better relate to him.
More entertaining, especially for educational creators. As a creator of mostly educational content, Ali's vlogs allow for more entertaining content for his subscribers.
Inspire your audience. Ali's viewers get inspiration from his vlogs, seeing the hard work that he puts in behind the scenes and that everything is not sunshine and rainbows.
Relate more with your viewers. Ali's audience finds comfort in realizing that he has struggles, a personal life, and other issues just like they do.
Shorts Are Taking Over YouTube π
YouTube recently announced that creators can now monetize Shorts. This is big news as YouTube and Instagram fight to steal TikTok's crown as Short-form Video King.
And with this announcement, it seems the YouTube algorithm is picking favorites when it comes to long vs. short-form video. Hint: Shorts are the favorite.
This presents an amazing opportunity for creators to grow on YouTube without losing out on ad revenue. No longer do Shorts feel like a waste of time and effort. Now, they're a new opportunity to increase ad revenue.
See what 16M+ subscriber Caylus has to say on the topic of YouTube Shorts.
Hereβs 3 of my channels at the moment. I started posting 1 short a week on all 3 channels in addition to my regular videos. If youβre not doing shorts rn.. you should maybe start

The Long Game β
Becoming a full-time content creator is more than posting a few videos and photos, going viral, and BAM - millions of followers. To be successful as a creator, you need to play the long game. This is easier said than done - especially in a world full of short cuts.
Popular Notion and productivity YouTuber Thomas Frank said it extremely well in the tweet below.
Be careful using cheap tactics.
You might get attention.
You might get see lots of numbers going up - likes, page views, subscribers.
But you might also be unknowingly burning bridges with influential people you haven't even met yet.

Let's say you love dogs and want to create original, educational content for dog owners. But you see that Fortnite compilation videos are getting millions of views on YouTube.
So, you put 20 Fortnite videos together and schedule them out to post every Monday and Friday. After 10 weeks, your channel jumps to 10,000 subscribers, you get the watch hours you need, and apply for monetization.
After a week, you hear back from YouTube and see that your channel got denied because you reused unoriginal content. You got the views and subscribers, but you're nowhere closer to your long-term goal of being a full-time creator than you were 10 weeks prior.

Content Tip of the Day π
Show, don't tell. Let me explain.
Showing keeps your viewer engaged rather than bored. Think about a lecture from a professor standing in front of a classroom of 100+ students. It's so much easier not to fall asleep in the classroom when the professor is demonstrating an lesson rather than sitting there talking at you for 90 minutes.
Let's say you're a fitness and lifestyle YouTuber making a video about your morning routine. Instead of sitting in front of a camera saying, "I start my morning routine by waking up at 5:30am and doing 10 pushups," show yourself snoozing the alarm clock as it displays 5:30am. Then show yourself getting out of bed and completing your 10 pushups.
Some easy ways to show instead of telling are:
B-Roll - can be self-made or stock video
Motion graphics or text on screen
Animation
