Will Creators Start Getting Paid To Tweet? πŸ€”

Elon tweeted that the $8/month Twitter Blue revenue will introduce a revenue stream to reward content creators.

Hey, how are ya? Happy Wednesday. The new Twitter Blue and verification system goes live today, apparently.

So it's only right that we discuss potential content creator monetization coming to Twitter. Let's dive in!πŸ‘‡

Will Creators Start Getting Paid To Tweet? πŸ€”

What happened? On November 1, during the chaos of all the Twitter changes, Elon Musk tweeted something that got lost in the mix... ‡️

He stated that the $8/month Twitter Blue revenue will introduce a revenue stream to reward content creators. With YouTube Shorts monetization coming in February of next year, TikTok rolling out its new Pulse program, and every platform fighting for content creators, now might be the time for Twitter to start paying up.

What does Twitter monetization look like now? Currently, the ways that you can make money on Twitter are limited to:

  • Super Follows where followers pay a price – between $2.99 and $9.99 - for bonus content and interactions

  • Tips where followers can simply tip you any amount

  • Amplify Pre-Roll and Amplify Sponsorships for verified twitter users (in other words, no a lot of us) that upload videos

So, how can might this change? It's still up in the air, but given Elon's tweet, it seems that there might be some sort of plan in place to start rewarding creators on Twitter. Popular YouTubers Colin and Samir certainly seem to think so with their tweet from yesterday... ‡️

Some of the most frequent ideas in the thread were:

  • Making video more prevalent on the platform (with a video-specific TL or tab) and allowing all creators to monetize immediately

  • Developing Super Follows out more to be like Patreon or OnlyFans

  • Having a certain percentage of the $8/mo Twitter Blue subscriptions divided amongst all Twitter users based on engagement

  • Allowing users to pay to have their reply show up at the top of your tweet replies

An additional idea was added by Colin and Samir - "Bundled super follow subscriptions where audiences can pay extra $$ for access to a group of creators tweets in a certain category. Imagine "The creator economy bundle" where 15 of the top accounts come together to create a bundled super follow. Rev share between accts."

Our thoughts. It's hard to tell at this point BUT the explore page of Twitter mobile app is starting to look more and more like the early YouTube Shorts shelf in 2020.

This makes us believe that video will be a major focus for Twitter moving forward and if so, it seems that there will some sort of ad revenue sharing program for creators that come to the platform.
